This new series of oil paintings are inspired by the winter desert skies that I see each morning looking out from my kitchen table. The circular shapes, transitory elements and radiant illuminations are unpredictable and exciting to try to capture.
The skies change hourly and I see the final moments of the evening skies with its faint traces of the moon shift to vivid orange and hot pink as the sun rapidly rises above the Indio Hills. The colors and shapes are enhanced by shifting cloud formations, shadows cast on the mountain ranges, weird chemtrails and the occasional flocks of birds.

All the paintings are framed with vintage frames I’ve collected over the years. Typically you start with a painting and then look at the framing to support it. This is going in the opposite direction. The frame is the starting point and the painting must respond to that aesthetic constraint.
